Fall into TV

By Dianna

The Vampire Diaries

Episodes:

“Our Town” And “The Ties That Bind”

Bonnie is not feeling all shiny about what Elena has done to Jeremy, as in compelling him to leave. She points out how Elena has erased his free will, which is a really good point because I agree it isn’t up to Elena to determine everyone’s life. I also agree because I will be really sad if he is leaving for good. In the end Bonnie says her good-bye and wishes him well.

Alcatraz Awakening

By Becca

Alcatraz is a new show on Monday nights on Fox at 9 pm, and I’m getting major LOST flashbacks from it. In fact, I just creeped myself out by typing flashback in relation to LOST—I swear I didn’t plan that. Drawing similarities between the two shows can’t be helped. It’s the same production company at the helm, and an island happens to be the central focus of the action on both. Yes, Alcatraz’s island is a prison, but I could find you plenty of LOST characters who found their island to be a prison as well. Also present? Darkly lit underground surveillance rooms, time travel, and even a hatch, and that’s all in the first three episodes. And of course, there’s Hurley.

Sons of Anarchy Connections – GH, LOST, Deadwood, etc…

By Katrina Rasbold

Hey, I’m only partway through season 3 and I’ve seen some good ones!  Stephen T. Kay, who played Reginald, Lyla’s butler on “General Hospital,” directed 7 episodes of SOA and Michael Fairman who played Benny, Sonny’s accountant showed up as Lumpy  (season 3).

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

(Insert the most annoying whistle in the history of whistling here)

The Good

Well – it’s over.  *sigh*  While I am sad that I didn’t get  a miraculous shirtless Nash in the finale, or a preggers Rama, Matthew DID step up and I’m good with that.  I love that they named their baby Drew, and y’all just have no idea how much I’m going to miss OLTL.  It was a lovely finale, with a sweet twist at the end, and thank *goodness* we have some of the Manning clan coming over to Port Charles so we can learn the rest of the story!

Explosive Eighteen and Heat Rises

By Carolyn Gilliland

Explosive Eighteen

Janet Evanovich

Bantam, November 2011, 302 pp.

I should have known better. I actually thought that it would only take a chapter or two to find out who Stephanie took to Hawaii. I was wrong, but the suspicious white line on an otherwise tanned ring finger was intriguing. In Explosive Eighteen, the latest of the Stephanie Plum series, things are pretty much the same old, same old in Trenton.  There are FTAs to track down, funerals for Grandma Mazur to attend, Lula is still cruising Cluck-in-a-Bucket and Stephanie… well, let’s just say Morelli and Ranger are still hanging around.

The Glee-Full Gab

Yes/No”

By Becca

Glee’s first episode of 2012 was stuffed with wedding and proposal stories—three to be exact. But ultimately, “Yes/No” wasn’t about those two words—Marry me?—Will wrote on the board, hilariously accompanied by the sounds of the whole choir room trying to piece together what he was writing before he was done. It was about honesty. Honesty about your future prospects, honesty about the lies you tell yourself and others to make life easier, and honesty about your feelings, even when they aren’t what you want to hear. I didn’t expect an episode about proposals, usually full of romantic sappiness, to confront so many different emotional landmines and to confront them well.

How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying – A Musical Review

By Becca

If you’ve managed to skip past all my columns for the past few months, thus avoiding my continual flailing, you may not know that I saw Darren Criss on Broadway in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying two nights ago. Amazingly, I did not instantly dissolve into that pile of goo I was convinced would be me after watching the performance, but I did thoroughly enjoy the show. It’s a lightweight musical comedy, and Criss’s portrayal of J. Pierrepont Finch was hilarious, earnest, and full of lovely song performances.

The Sandbox- OLTL

oltl21By Sandi Kelly Showalter

Welcome back to the Sandbox my fellow playmates! Let’s dig in to OLTL…for the final time. I don’t want to write this column. I really don’t. I don’t want to acknowledge the loss of a show that means so much to so many. I don’t want to think about the characters I’m going to miss or the stories we’ll never see. I don’t want to think about the ache in my heart that will be there on Monday when I see the empty spot on my DVR. I don’t want to share my happy memories or cry with my fellow playmates, because that means I have to do the thing I don’t want to do most of all…I don’t want to say goodbye.

Random Musings of a Woeful Mind – OLTL, GH, DOOL & Y&R

By Mysti Digby

Yeah – I’m woeful.  One Life to Live has been so amazing the last few weeks of its existence.  I can’t believe that after today, it’s over.  *sigh*  The next to last show was such a wonderful tribute to the fans; it literally had me in tears.  Viki’s monologue was a moving, brilliant love letter written by someone who truly knows and appreciates the fans.  I’ve watched far too many wonderful shows end – and so far, this has been one of most moving.  Nicely done Ron and the other fine OLTL writers.  Nicely done.

The Doctor’s Order – GH

By Becca

Hey folks, I haven’t caught up on GH since Friday, so apologies if my musings are out of date. Plus, I just found out about the Mannings coming to Port Charles, so I haven’t fully processed that news yet, but the knee-jerk reaction is . . . awesome! I also have no pretty screen caps for you this week, but you still love me, right? Right? *crickets* Anyhow, lets talk about Sonny and Kate. Their budding relationship is like a florentine cookie that’s burnt at the edges. They are sharing loads of adorable moments—Sonny learning to play the trumpet, reliving their youths in Bensonhurst. But those moments are marred by the bitter taste of ashes.
